HBO’s Last of Us Star Calls One Episode 'The Best Hours of Television'

It’s no question that Naughty Dog’s Last of Us video game remains a huge global success, not only for its quality graphics, but even more for its unique apocalyptic storytelling about Joel Miller (played by Pedro Pascual) and Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey) taking the world on their own. One Last of Us star, Murray Bartlett (set to play Frank, Bill’s deceased lover in the game) calls one particular episode of the show as ‘the best hours of television’ he’s ever read.

In an interview with Collider, Bartlett shares that one particular episode of Last of Us is incomparable to the many scripts he had read before. He even emphasizes how ‘human’ it was to soon be experiencing it himself on screen. Read Bartlett’s full quote below:

“The scripts that I had to work with, one particular script is one of the best hours of television I’ve ever read. It’s beautiful. It’s beautifully written. There are these zombie creatures in it, but it’s tender and it’s human. I think it’s gonna be really special. I haven’t seen any of it yet, but I’m really proud of the work we did and I think it could be really, really wonderful. It will be really wonderful.”

Although there isn't much news about how much Bartlett’s Frank will be involved in the series, it is relieving to hear that even the cast thinks highly of the show they’re starring in. Bartlett’s character Frank was actually merely revealed as an anecdote for being Bill’s old lover. The game featured Frank hanging himself from the ceiling after becoming infected.

Seeing as HBO’s The Last of Us is striving to produce a faithful adaptation of the game’s storyline, we can assume that Frank’s involvement with Bill might include at least a glimpse of moments to build his importance towards Bill, who is set to be played by Park and Rec’s Nick Offerman.

HBO officially announced Last of Us will premiere on January 15, 2023.
