Who is Harmada the Spider-Alien in Rebel Moon and Who Plays Her?

Rebel Moon exists in an entirely new world of creatures and stories that viewers may find themselves a little familiar with. But who is Harmada the Spider-Alien and who plays her in the two-part Netflix film? Here's a little explainer.

Meet Rebel Moon's Harmada the Spider-Alien

Rebel Moon introduces fans to Harmada, an arachnid-like alien living in the depths of the mining world, Daggus, which Zack Snyder's wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder described as 'Blade Runner-y' with its own flare.

Netflix Tudum describes Harmada as a 'mysterious presence' who clashes with Nemesis (played by Doona Bae).'

While it remains to be seen if Harmada is an ally or a foe in Rebel Moon, the actress who plays the character, Jena Malone, told Variety Magazine that Harmada being a 14 or 18-feet tall half-Spider, half-woman is what led her to 'own' herself.

Malone jokingly added that Harmada takes her own 'rebellion' to the next level by not fitting into any conventional clothes.

Rebel Moon isn't Jena Malone's First Zack Snyder Film

Did you know that the two-part Netflix space epic is not Jena Malone's first time starring in a Zack Snyder-helmed movie?

The 39-year-old actress has starred in prominent films such as Pride and Prejudice, the Hunger Games franchise, and even had a minor role in DC's Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Malone has made a name for herself, and her small on-screen roles have earned her several accolades, including a Golden Globe Awards nomination for Hope movie as Best Actress in a Miniseries and two Screen Actors Guild Awards noms for Bastard Out of Carlina and Into the Wild.

Jena Malone on How Much Sucker Punch Meant To Her

Malone also starred in Zack Snyder's 2011 action-fantasy film, Sucker Punch as Rocket, aka Sweet Pea's (played by Abbie Cornish) younger sister who ran away from home.

Malone also told Screen Rant back in September 2022 just how much Snyder's 2011 flick meant to her, adding that Sucker Punch was the 'best film experience' she ever had:

"I mean, working on Sucker Punch was so f---ng awesome. Sorry for my language, but it was one of the best film experiences I ever had. I had just never been asked to do so many cool things and then also have the belief instilled in me that I could do those things. That was a very groundbreaking moment in my journey as an actor, so it was pretty cool."
