Earlier this summer, George Clooney made a cameo appearance in the final scene of The Flash where he reprised the role of Bruce Wayne decades after he last played him in the critically panned Batman & Robin.

The Oscar-winning actor's cameo was a huge surprise for fans as they never thought that he would ever return to the role in the aftermath of the 1997 movie's reception. It also sets up an interesting twist since it suggests that Clooney is now the new Bruce Wayne in the DCEU.

While fans have assumed that Clooney's cameo was just a one-off, some are still wondering if he could return to the role in some capacity despite the upcoming DCU reboot that is expected to feature a new version of Batman.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter during the premiere event of his new movie The Boys in the Boat, Clooney was asked whether his Batman cameo in The Flash was a one-off or if he's open to continuing playing the role again.

"Oh yeah. Somehow there were not a lot of requests for me to reprise my role as Batman, I don’t know why," he jokingly said.

Fans have presumed at this point that Clooney's cameo was a one-off so it's not surprising to see that the actor shut down the possibility and, with the upcoming DCU reboot, it's too far-fetch to see him play the role again in a significant way.

There's also the fact that Clooney's tenure as Batman was not as revered as the other actors who played the role and his cameo appearance in The Flash was simply a special easter egg for DC fans that has no bearing at all on the future of the franchise.

It is interesting to see what kind of direction will James Gunn and Peter Safran take on Batman in the DCU and the story that they have in mind for The Brave and the Bold, the character's upcoming solo movie in the franchise.

All we can say at this point is that we won't be seeing Clooney wear the cape again.
