In early 2021, Gina Carano was infamously fired by Lucasfilm from her involvement in The Mandalorian and future Star Wars projects over her controversial social media posts.

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable," Lucasfilm said in a statement during that time.

The role of Cara Dune was not recast with another actress and the third season of The Mandalorian moved on without the presence of the character in the story.

Now, three years after her firing, the actress is taking legal action.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gina Carano has filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm for discrimination and wrongful termination regarding her firing from The Mandalorian.

She is also seeking compensatory damages and a court order that would make Lucasfilm recast her on the show.

"The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time," she said in her statement on X after the lawsuit was filed.

"My words were consistently twisted to demonize & dehumanize me as an alt right wing extremist. It was a bullying smear campaign aimed at silencing, destroying & making an example out of me."

Elon Musk is backing Carano's lawsuit through X as part of his promise to shoulder the legal bill of users who alleged that they were discriminated against and fired over their activity on the platform.

In the complaint, the actress alleged that Disney and Lucasfilm harassed and defamed her for refusing to conform to their viewpoints on issues relating to Black Lives Matter, preferred pronouns, and disproven claims of election interference.

Carano also claimed that Disney required her to meet with a representative of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination and demanded a public apology. When she refused, she was told to meet with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and employees who identify as LGBTQ+.

In addition, she alleged that Disney engaged in a "post-termination smear campaign" against her appearance in Running Wild With Bear Grylls and faulted that her termination led to her being dropped by United Talent Agency as a client.

So far, Disney and Lucasfilm have not made any statements or responses regarding Carano's lawsuit against them.
