It has been a while since the Food Wars manga ended, and finally, its creators are making their long-awaited comeback. Recently, it was revealed that Food Wars creators Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki will return to Weekly Shonen Jump with a new cinema school series.

While an official announcement hasn’t been made just yet, notable manga insiders have shared the news on Twitter.

Specifically, the duo’s new manga will replace some recent Shonen Jump titles that have been axed.

Getting a Shonen Jump serialization is a huge deal for manga creators, though it also comes with a lot of pressure.

After all, if the series doesn’t do well after a certain time, they are in danger of being replaced (or “axed” as fans call it).

The most recent manga to be axed was Tokyo Demon Bride, a manga that only reached its 29th chapter.

Before that, the series PPPPPP was also canceled, likely due to low sales and/or interest.

Because of this, Shueisha is lining up new titles made by veteran creators.

One new series that will debut soon is titled Kiruao, and it will be written by Tadatoshi Fujimaki, the well-known creator of Kuroko’s Basketball. According to reports, this manga will premiere on April 17.

Going back to previous creators makes sense given their experience and success with previous serializations.

Though that’s not a guarantee of success as even the likes of Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto’s creator) had a series get axed.

Another upcoming manga is Tenmaku Cinema, which will be made by Food Wars writer Yuto Tsukuda and illustrator Shun Saeki.

While there’s no visual yet to give us an idea of what it’ll look like, reports mentioned that it will follow Hajime, a high school student who loves cinema.

Given that the duo’s previous work also features high school-aged students, it’s no surprise that their next manga will be set in a high school. Though its premise about a cinephile student is intriguing.

As Food Wars featured an equal dose of cooking and comedy, this new series will also likely have comedic elements.

Though we’ll have to wait and see if it does turn out to be another fun and light-hearted manga.

Based on the latest reports, Tenmaku Cinema will begin on April 10, 2023.
