Ellen Pompeo promised to return to Grey’s Anatomy after her Season 19 exit. In an emotional post on Instagram Thursday, November 17, the medical drama’s lead bid goodbye to her character of 17 years.

It was earlier reported that Pompeo would only have a limited appearance in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19, and she would leave the show after eight episodes. Meredith Grey (Pompeo) is about to go, but it will not be the end of her.

The 53-year-old will remain the series’ executive producer and continuously provide voiceover narration for the rest of the season.

The long-running drama has already given a glimpse of Meredith’s exit in the preview for the midseason premiere on February 23, 2021.

In the clip, the Chief of Surgery can be seen walking on the halls of Grey Sloan, looking excited over her “big last day” and the life that awaits her and her family in Boston.

Meredith learned earlier this season that her daughter, Zola (Aniela Gumbs), has anxiety because she’s gifted.

Hence, she looked for a new school and environment that would help stimulate her child’s mind, making her choose Boston.

Zola already took a shine to Brookline STEAM Academy. Fortunately, it was the same place where her colleague, Jackson (Jesse Williams), offered her a job to cure Alzheimer’s at the Catherine Fox Foundation.
