It looks like Sunghoo Park might be returning for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2! The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 director may have confirmed that he will continue to helm the new episodes of the anime series despite previous reports that he has already left MAPPA!
Earlier in March, several reports confirmed that Sunghoo Park has started his own animation studio E&H Production. Although it was not specified that Park, who has been working freelance for MAPPA for several years, has officially left the studio, most of the reports indicated that he will be working independently with his new production.
But is Sunghoo Park truly leaving MAPPA for good? The animation director recently took part in the Jujutsu Kaisen panel during Anime Expo 2022 (via ComicBook.com). In a pre-recorded video, Park thanked fans for their support of the anime's first season and Jujutsu Kaisen 0. He then added that he hopes people are looking forward to Season 2 ahead of its premiere next year.
Not surprisingly, Park's comments had fans hoping that he will continue to work on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. Although neither MAPPA nor Park had confirmed that the director will be the one to helm the second season, there is a possibility that both parties can work something out to make this happen.
It's possible that MAPPA still wants Park for the anime and will work with E&H Production on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. It would certainly be a huge project and two studios working together would make sense. However, it's important to point out that nothing has been confirmed yet so it's best to wait for an official announcement.
Sunghoo Park directed the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen as well as the anime's feature film which is now the 8th highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to premiere sometime in 2023.
