Dave Filoni Weighs In On Why Ahsoka Has Longer Episodes Than The Mandalorian

At last, now that The Mandalorian Season 3 has reached its end, with Season 4 likely along the way, the next upcoming series to expect is Ahsoka, featuring Rosario Dawson as the titular character.

While little information is known on what Ahsoka beholds for Star Wars fans, Dave Filoni weighs in on how longer the Ahsoka series has as compared to The Mandalorian.

“I would say it’s pretty relative when you do this kind of work.” The Ahsoka showrunner said this while speaking with Collider.

“One thing Jon [Favreau] and I are very adamant about is that we try to, you know, cut it down and strip it down to keep it moving.” Favreau continued.

“You know, it’s very much a faster, a more intense rule that George [Lucas] has, so my episodes have actually started pretty long, you know, because I wrote them all. So they’re a little different.”

Considering that Filoni did not specify whether he was talking about the length of episodes or the runtime, The Mandalorian series contained a total of 24 episodes over the course of 3 seasons.

Seeing as Ahsoka has not been confirmed to be a limited series or containing a couple more seasons, as to why the Disney+ series is going to be longer remains to be seen.

It is worth noting that a previous report claimed that Ahsoka Season 2 might not be on the table, in spite of the show stars teasing about its potential multi-seasonal show.

Filoni might have been involved with both of the Star Wars series, but admits that since he is the sole writer of Ahsoka, he has written a much longer script than initially intended for the series.

The Star Wars creative estimated that Ahsoka episodes are “in the same range as Mandalorian episodes”, especially since he stated that each episode had “a lot of work” plus the fact that he “knows the characters so well."

“Maybe on average a little longer, but I honestly don’t know where they’re at right now with their most recent cut down I’ve done,” Filoni added, “But I’d say it’s in the same range.”

Ahsoka is set to premiere on Disney+ this August.
