We can all agree that Hayden Christen's initial portrayal of Anakin Skywalker left a bitter taste in the mouths of Star Wars fans. But the actor wasn't the only one gunning for a spot in the prequel trilogy. Now, it turns out that Charlie Hunnam, who stars in Netflix's Rebel Moon tried his luck to become part of a galaxy far, far away.

During the screening process for the role, previously played by then-child actor Ross Beadman in The Phantom Menace, Episode II's casting director looked into 1,500 actors before George Lucas chose Christensen.

But what exactly went wrong with Hunnam's Star Wars try-out?

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Sons of Anarchy star confirmed that he auditioned for the part and even met with Lucas at one point. Admittedly, Hunnam has long forgotten about the entire experience but he shared: "That is true, yeah. I had forgotten that until you said that. Years and years ago I met George Lucas."

The actor, who plays Kai in Rebel Moon added: "I got to the point where I was meeting George Lucas. I don’t think he meets a lot of actors, I think there were probably two, maybe three actors they were considering. I don’t remember much about it. I remember that I was nervous, I was a little bit awkward and I remember walking out and thinking ‘Well, I’m definitely not getting that role.’ And I was correct. Sometimes it’s about the vibes."

Well, at least Hunnam came close to living his intergalactic dream by being in Rebel Moon. However, things aren't looking good for Zack Snyder's space drama as it's currently getting underwhelming reactions from viewers.

As it stands, it has an Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes of 73% and even debuted with a 9% score on the Tomatometer. Of course, things can still change in the coming days but the critical response to it hasn't been good either.
