Aside from her various award-winning performances throughout her career so far, Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman is also known for playing Anakin Skywalker's love interest Padme Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

The character tragically died at the end of the Revenge of the Sith right after she gave birth to Luke and Leia. Despite Anakin's turn to the dark side and becoming Darth Vader, she believed that there was still some goodness in him.

For many years, there has been a fan theory going around that Padme actually tried to kill Anakin during their confrontation near the end even though there is no on-screen evidence that heavily suggested it.

Now, the actress has finally chimed in on the fan theory and set the record straight on her character's motivation behind the heartbreaking moment.

In a recent video interview that she conducted for Vanity Fair, Natalie Portman was asked about her thoughts surrounding the popular fan theory on her character during the end of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

While she acknowledged that it's a "cool" theory, the Oscar winner debunked the idea.

"Oh. That’s cool but no. I mean cool, but no," the actress said with a laugh.

Throughout the character's arc in the trilogy, there is no scene that suggests that Padme had an intention to kill the love of her life even when he turned to the dark side in the end.

We saw during her death that she still loved Anakin no matter what and it doesn't make sense if she suddenly tried to kill him in their last scene together near the end of the film.

In the end, regardless of the plausibility of the fan theory or the true motivations of the characters, there's no doubt that Anakin and Padme's love story ended in a tragedy and it endured for many years to come as we saw the growth of their two children that became the heroes of the galaxy.
