This week, the new DC film Blue Beetle arrives in theaters and fans have been looking forward to its release due to its groundbreaking nature as the first Latino-led superhero movie in the DC franchise and it will also be the hero's big screen debut.

It's also been confirmed that Jaime Reyes is officially designated as the first character in the new DCU franchise under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Given that the previous DC films that were released ended up becoming box office disappointments, there are a lot of hopes that the new movie will reverse the course and become a rousing success financially.

Fortunately, the early word-of-mouth based on the social media reactions have been positive which hints that it could potentially break the DC franchise's unfortunate streak and become an actual hit that they want it to be.

The Reviews for Blue Beetle Are Out

Today, as the film is starting to roll out in the international market, the review embargo for Blue Beetle has been lifted and critics were able to finally share the reviews for the new DC joint.

As of the time of the writing of this article, the film has nabbed an impressive 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on the 55 reviews that they gathered so far. It is expected to change as more reviews will roll out in the next several hours.

Nevertheless, the film is already off to a great start critically and it is already better than the previous DCEU films such as The Flash (which has a score of 64%), Shazam! Fury of the Gods (49%), and Black Adam (39%).

In the overall list, it is already placed around the top five with Wonder Woman still leading with 93% followed by Shazam! and The Suicide Squad which both tied with 90%.

If Blue Beetle will be able to maintain the 80-89% range by the end, it will stay as the DCEU movie with the fourth-highest Rotten Tomatoes score or even possibly tie with the two films if it goes up to 90%.

This is definitely a promising sign as the film arrives in North American theaters this weekend and, depending on the word-of-mouth and the attendance from the general moviegoers, it could end up topping the opening weekend charts and dethrone Barbie.
