It's been a long time coming, but Blue Beetle has finally arrived in the DCU's live-action universe. Now that the blue Scarab-powered hero made his splashing debut on the big screen, is Blue Beetle getting any DVD or Blu-ray copies released, as well? If so, when will they be coming out?

Online streaming services may be a thing, but nothing beats having your own personal physical copy of your favorite films, as some people or fans would prefer getting the DVD or Blu-ray version.

There is at least a three-month interval between its theatrical run and its home video release, which makes a lot of sense as to why Blue Beetle got its DVD & Blu-ray release date on October 31, 2023.

However, nothing could beat The Flash when it got its streaming release date merely 32 days from its theatrical premiere, with its DVD & Blu-ray release date 74 days later.

The Flash received its early streaming and digital release date, thanks to its horrible box office record during its theatrical run.

As for the case of Blue Beetle, though, the Xolo Maridueña-led film led to bigger losses at Warner Bros., considering that it has been declared the WORST DCEU film rated at the box office.

It remains to be seen if this would still greenlight a potential Blue Beetle 2, but it's not looking pretty great for the newly released blue Scarab hero's future in the DCU franchise.

Did you know that Blue Beetle initially wasn’t even supposed to debut on the big screens, but rather on a streaming platform?

Yeah, you got that right. Blue Beetle was set out to premiere on HBO’s streaming service, Max.

That is, until Warner Bros. declared in their announcement that the blue Scarab hero will be making his solo debut in theaters this August 18th, instead.

As it turned out, Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto had to fight for Jaime Reyes’ rights to debut cinematically instead of keeping DC’s first Latino hero on a mere streaming service (via Collider):

“[W]e worked very, very hard to do this worldbuilding where the action sequences, the suit, the passion of the family, and the cultural aspects are presented in a way worthy of watching it, not only in the theater but even on IMAX, and being able to see our communities that way. I think that we did an amazing job in bringing to life the concept development of it all that at the end, Warner Bros. decided that this movie has to go to the theaters.”

Here's the official synopsis of the Blue Beetle movie:

An alien scarab chooses Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) to be its symbiotic host, bestowing the recent college graduate with a suit of armor that's capable of extraordinary powers, forever changing its destiny as he becomes the (new) superhero known as Blue Beetle.
