Beetlejuice 2 Adds James Bond Alum in Key Role

After decades of being in development, the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 classic Beetlejuice is finally happening as Warner Bros. announced recently that the film is set for a 2024 release, and production recently just started in London with Tim Burton back at the helm.

We've been hearing several updates about the film in the last few weeks as it was heading to production including the casting of Jenna Ortega and Justin Theroux as new additions to the Beetlejuice family.

Now, another new cast member has been added to the film as The Hollywood Reporter revealed that famed Italian actress and model Monica Bellucci is currently in talks to join the ensemble of Beetlejuice 2. She will play the role of Beetlejuice's wife.

The report also officially confirmed that Catherine O'Hara is also returning to the sequel to reprise her role of Delia Deetz from the first film.

Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are also confirmed to reprise their roles from the first film. Ortega will be playing the role of Lydia Deetz's daughter while Theroux's role is being kept under wraps at the moment.

There is no confirmation yet whether other cast members from the first film such as Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Alec Baldwin will be returning to the sequel.

Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay for the sequel. Brad Pitt's Plan B company is producing the film.

The plot details also remain under wraps, but based on the details that we've heard so far, it looks like Beetlejuice was able to escape the after-life waiting room and encounter Lydia again, who now has a family of her own.

Bellucci has been a staple of Hollywood and Italian cinema for decades thanks to her roles such as in Spectre and The Matrix movies and she has proven in her various roles in the past decades that she is a talented actress so she is definitely a great addition to the cast.

It is exciting to see how she'll play into the story of the film, especially with her interesting role as Beetlejuice's wife and what her dynamic with Keaton will be on the screen.
