Beetlejuice 2 Casts The Leftovers Star Justin Theroux in Mystery Role

For years, Tim Burton has been attempting to do a sequel to his 1988 classic Beetlejuice, but none of them made any progress and it seemed like the project might not happen anymore due to the lack of updates.

Fortunately, things were shaping again recently as we learned reports that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega was being cast for a key role and the long-awaited follow-up is officially happening as Warner Bros. has also set a 2024 release date for it.

Now, the film has recruited another new cast member as Deadline confirmed that The Leftovers and The Mosquito Coast star Justin Theroux is joining the cast of Beetlejuice 2. However, the details regarding his role are being kept under wraps at the moment.

Burton is returning to direct the film. Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are confirmed to reprise their roles from the first film while Ortega is confirmed to be part of the cast playing the role of Lydia Deetz's daughter.

Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay for the sequel. Brad Pitt's Plan B company is producing the film.

Production begins today in London. There is no confirmation yet whether other cast members from the first film such as Catherine O'Hara, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Alec Baldwin will be returning to the sequel.

The plot details also remain under wraps, but based on the details that we've heard so far, it looks like Beetlejuice was able to escape the after-life waiting room and encounter Lydia again, who now has a family of her own.

Theroux is known for his role as Kevin Garvey in the acclaimed HBO series The Leftovers and currently stars in the limited series White House Plumbers. He appeared in films such as The Girl on the Train, The Spy Who Dumped Me, and Lady and the Tramp.

It is great to see a talented actor like Theroux joins the cast of the film and it is curious to know what kind of role will he play in the sequel. An easy guess right now is he is either the main villain or Lydia's current love interest, but we should be able to find out the truth soon enough.
