For decades, we've been hearing reports that Tim Burton has been attempting to do a sequel to his iconic 1988 film Beetlejuice. It remained stuck in development hell and there was no progress to move it forward to production.

However, a few months ago, we were seeing signs that the sequel might finally happen as reports revealed that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega was in talks to join the film, and production is finally set to begin soon.

Now, we have the confirmation that we've been waiting for as Variety revealed that Warner Bros. has set a September 6, 2024 release date for Beetlejuice 2, landing the Labor Day weekend date where the studio usually releases their horror films in the past.

The sequel will be competing with the MCU film Blade, which recently paused its pre-production due to the impact of the WGA strike and is speculated to move its release date as a result of the delay.

Burton is returning to direct the film. Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are confirmed to reprise their roles from the first film while Ortega is confirmed to be part of the cast playing the role of Lydia Deetz's daughter.

Production begins today in London. There is no confirmation yet whether other cast members from the first film such as Catherine O'Hara, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Alec Baldwin will be returning to the sequel.

The plot details also remain under wraps, but based on the details that we've heard so far, it looks like Beetlejuice was able to escape the after-life waiting room and encounter Lydia again, who now has a family of her own.

This is certainly exciting news since we've been hearing for years about plans for the sequel. With the current trend of nostalgia from classic films, it looks like they are using that opportunity to finally make it happen.
