It's not every day that we get treated to a female-led action film without the need for any further frills. For many fans though, they need a Ballerina K-Drama movie genre explanation behind Ok-ju's desire to seek revenge.

What was Ok-ju's reason to hunt and kill Choi Pro? Is there any romance in the film? We talk about this in this article.

No, there is no romance in Ballerina Kdrama and it doesn't need one. It's a purely simple movie about a former bodyguard seeking revenge for her friend's death.

At first, she doesn't know why her friend, Min-hee (played by Park Yu-rim) has committed suicide. But as the film progresses, she discovers that her friend was raped and being blackmailed by her assailant, Choi Pro (played by Kim Ji-hoon).

Having no way to escape her nightmare, Min-hee decides to kill herself. Before she slits her wrists, she leaves behind a note for her dearest friend.

Most people would do anything for their friends. But most people would not kill or put themselves in front of an army of a drug syndicate unless they had a death wish. But then again, most people aren't Ok-ju (played by Jeon Jong-seo).

So why is Ok-ju willing to risk everything for her friend? That's because Min-hee is Ok-ju's one and only friend.

In a series of flashbacks, we learn that Min-hee and Ok-ju were classmates when they were younger. In a chance encounter, the two meet while Ok-ju is buying a birthday cake for herself.

The two later rekindle their friendship and Ok-ju reveals that Min-hee brought light to Ok-ju's mundane life. Along the way, they lost touch as Min-hee pursued a career to be a ballerina while Ok-ju continued to be a bodyguard.

So when Ok-ju receives a call from Min-hee one day, she is more than eager to reconnect with her old friend.

It's quite unclear whether Ok-ju and Min-hee's friendship was platonic or a romantic one. The two did share some pretty intimate moments and seemed to be into each other (if you're trying to look for romantic cues, that is).

We also can't help but make a theory of our own. It's possible that Ok-ju was in love with Min-hee, who only saw her as a friend.

Since there's no explanation behind their falling out, it's possible that Ok-ju could have confessed to Min-hee and she rejected her.

Min-hee could have distanced herself from Ok-ju to avoid hurting her, which explains why she apologized to her in the phone call.

When you think about it this way, this is a likely scenario. It would explain why Ok-ju had immense hatred for Choi Pro.

Here's what other people had to say about the relationship between Ok-ju and Min-hee on social media:

But then again, the two could truly have a platonic relationship with Ok-ju as a loyal friend. If this is the case, I'd want to have a friend like her!
