Aquaman 2 Shifts Release to an Earlier Date

Before the new DCU franchise begins under James Gunn and Peter Safran, there are still a couple of DCEU films from the previous regime that is set to release this year including Aquaman and Lost Kingdom, the last title in the batch. It is set to arrive in theaters right before the year ends.

Now, there is an exciting change to the film's release date as Deadline has reported that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will now arrive in theaters five days earlier as Warner Bros. shifted its release date to December 20 instead of Christmas Day this year.

As a result, the film will be facing off against the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel and the animated film Migration, which will release on Friday that week. In addition, it will also release around the same time as the Timothee Chalamet-led Wonka, which is slated to arrive in theaters on December 15.

The DCEU sequel also swapped places with the upcoming musical film The Color Purple, which will now take the Christmas Day release date slot. Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon is also slated to release on Netflix around the same period.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has also set a release date for the Jason Momoa-led Minecraft movie which will be on April 4, 2025. The Robert De Niro-led gangster film Wise Guys is now also scheduled to release on February 2, 2024 while the Wizard of Oz animated film Toto has been removed from the release calendar.

While the shift is only for a couple of days, it is still exciting nonetheless that the audience will be able to see the movie earlier than what they initially planned. From the box office standpoint, it is an opportunity to rack more money even before Christmas Day arrives, which is considered one of the most packed seasons in moviegoing.
