Angela Bassett Bags Another Historic Nomination for Black Panther 2

Last night, Angela Bassett made history as she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the first ever in MCU's history. It is certainly a great signal for her momentum this awards season since the chances of getting an Oscar nomination and even a win are now more likely than ever.

Today, another major awards recognition has been added to Bassett's mantle as she received a nomination for Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her performance as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the 29th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

This is another history for the MCU since Bassett is the first performer from the franchise to receive an individual acting nomination. The ensemble cast of the first Black Panther film won the Outstanding Cast in the Motion Picture category a few years ago where Bassett was among the honorees.

Bassett will be competing against actresses such as Hong Chau from The Whale, Kerry Condon from The Banshees of Inisherin, and Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu both from Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also received a nomination in the Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture category where it will be competing with other blockbusters such as Avatar: The Way of Water, The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick, and The Woman King.

It is definitely exciting to see Bassett receive another nomination for her work in the MCU film. Not only because it is historic for the franchise, but a lot of people would also agree that she does deserve it and her performance has been acclaimed ever since the film was released.

It would be interesting to see whether Bassett's momentum will continue in the next few weeks. After all, the SAG Awards is considered a reliable precursor to the Oscars. With this and her recent Golden Globe, it is looking very good now for her chances to not just only get an Oscar nomination, but also a win.
