Who Is Aka Niviâna, Who Plays Julia in True Detective?

Dead scientists and a missing tongue aren't the only things messing up in True Detective: Night Country. A couple of new characters also happen to revolve in the story, which includes Aka Niviâna as Julia this True Detective Season 4.

Aka Niviâna's Body of Work Prior to On-Screen Debut

Before getting into Aka Niviâna's role as Julia Navarro in the latest season of True Detective, here's who the actress is in real life.

Aka Niviâna is an Inuk writer and climate activist from the northern coast of Kalaalit Nunaat (Greenland).

She writes poetry published under various establishments in hopes of spreading more eye-opening conversations about climate change, colonialism, and the rights of the indigenous people.

Niviâna has also previously presented several keynote speeches at the United Nations and other similar conferences, including voicing the stories for the UN below:

In terms of acting, her other role happened to be back in 2022, where she appeared as a runner in the Greenland Unit in one episode of the TV series Borgen.

It is worth mentioning that True Detective also happens to be a political drama, similar to Niviâna's previous starring role in her career. Without further ado, here's who she plays in the newest season.

Aka Niviâna's Role as Julia Navarro in True Detective Explained

In True Detective: Night Country, trooper Evangeline Navarro (played by Kali Reis) has a sister to look after behind the scenes, and that is Julia (Aka Niviâna), whom she calls "Jules" for short.

Jules appears to have been living with "Angie" for a while now because Jules tends to deal with "hysterics" a lot more often than she normally does.

Angie knows she has to look after her sister, and though she wants to help her with her unspecified condition, Jules is clear when she states, "No hospitals. You promised me no hospitals."

Though it remains to be seen if we'll see more of Jules beyond being the officer's sister, Angie has a lot to take on in her plate, as much as Chief Liz Danvers does.

Meanwhile, the first episode of True Detective is available to stream on Max.
