Mon Mothma has been a pivotal figure in the Star Wars franchise ever since her first appearance in Return of the Jedi where she was introduced as the leader of the Rebel Alliance and her "many Bothans died" scene also became the subject of a popular internet meme.

Since then, the character has been a recurring presence as we've seen her in films and TV shows that are set in the events prior to the original trilogy where we saw her as an embattled senator in the midst of the Imperial regime.

In the recent third episode of Ahsoka, Mon made her return with Genevieve O'Reilly reprising the role once again. Unlike her previous appearances, she is now a more powerful figure since she is serving as the Chancellor of the New Republic in the show's present-day timeline.

This also marks the first time that O'Reilly is playing her iconic character in the post-original trilogy timeline and it is interesting to see how she will fare well now that she is the leader of the supposedly promising new government.

Mon showed up for a single scene during the earlier part of the third episode of Ahsoka where she was seen in a meeting with Hera Syndulla and the other senators including Hamata Xiono.

After opening with pleasantries, Hera discussed the attack on the Corellia shipyards in the second episode where she and Ahsoka Tano discovered that a group of workers that are loyal to the Empire are building a massive hyperdrive.

The senators initially dismissed the concerns, but things got heated when Hela brought up Grand Admiral Thrawn and proposed establishing a task force to search for him. Xiono accused Hera of suggesting that the proposal is just a disguise as a search for her friend Ezra Bridger instead.

After a heated exchange between Hera and Xiono where the former warned that another war could occur if Thrawn returns, Mon cut off the meeting and asked for time to discuss the proposal with her colleagues.

While the Chancellor's appearance was for a single sequence, it is a pivotal moment nevertheless as it shows us that, despite a presumably peaceful and more stable government in the post-Imperial era, there is still some tension within the higher-ups.

Mon's facial expression throughout the meeting also suggests that she probably has internal conflicts and struggles about the idea of the rise of the Empire once again which she thought was already over after the Battle of Endor.

It is likely that we will see her again in a few more episodes this season and gives us an idea about her leadership as the Chancellor and how she is going to handle the threat of Thrawn's return.
