Based on Yoshikawa Miki’s love comedy shounen manga, "A Couple of Cuckoos" will be part of the anime lineup for spring 2022. Yoshikawa, who also worked for Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, debuted the manga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in January 2020. The manga also received a novel adaptation on April 14.

What is A Couple of Cuckoos Anime About?
A Couple of Cuckoos is a romantic comedy anime about the twisted fates of Nagi Umino and Erika Amano. It tells the fate of 16-year old high school student Nagi Umino, as he discovers that the family who raised him all this time is not his biological family. One day, Nagi decides to meet his real family.
On the way, Nagi happens to meet the bold, confident, outspoken, and popular internet celebrity Erika Amano, who is also running away from her arranged marriage. Erika desperately wants Nagi to stand in as her fake boyfriend to escape her arranged marriage.
Later on, Nagi finds out that there was a hospital switchback in the day. In order to resolve this, his foster parents are already aiming for an arranged marriage between him and the daughter raised by his biological parents. It turns out, Erika Amano will be her betrothed! What a small world! As part of the plan, both Nagi and Erika will be made to live in the same house!
A Couple of Cuckoos Release Date
A Couple of Cuckoos anime will premiere on April 23, 2022, as part of the Spring 2022 anime seasonal lineup. It will reach Japanese television screens through TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block. Meanwhile, for other regions such as the USA, UK, and Europe, the anime will premiere on April 22, 2022, due to time zone differences.
It has been reported that A Couple of Cuckoos will be having a continuous half-year run across two cours. While a total episode count hasn't been confirmed yet, this runtime means the first season is likely to have around 22-26 episodes!

In Japan, A Couple of Cuckoos will premiere on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block and its affiliates on April 23, 2022. Outside Japan, Crunchyroll will stream the anime on their platform.

What Studio is Producing A Couple of Cuckoos?
A Couple of Cuckoos animation production will be done by Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP.
Shin-Ei Animation is known for its animation work behind shows such as Teasing Master Takagi-san, Sweetness and Lightning, Shin Chan, and even Doraemon. Also, the studio is set to co-produce the upcoming anime Chimimo with M2 Animation and DeeDee Animation Studio.
Meanwhile, SynergySP is known for animating shows such as Hayate The Combat Butler, Initial D, Metal Fight Beyblade, Mermaid Melody, Pichi Pichi Pitch, and Major.
Yoshiyuki Shirahata, known for his work on anime shows such as Great Petender's storyboard and episode directing jobs for Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle and Diary of Our Days at the Break Water, will direct the anime.
On the other hand, Hiroaki Akagi will serve as the Chief Director. He has worked on anime shows such as Teasing Master Takagi-san, Mashiro no Oto, and Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto.
Kitou Akari will voice Erika Amano, while Ishikawa Kaito will give life to Nagi Umino. Kitou is known for her voice acting roles in anime shows such as Demon Slayer (Nezuko), Tonikaku Kawaii (Tsukasa), and Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club (Kanata).
Meanwhile, Ishikawa is known for front-running roles in anime shows such as Ryman’s Club (Souta), Tokyo 24th Ward (Kouki), and The Case Study of Vanitas (Noe).
A Couple of Cuckoos’ opening theme, "Dekoboko" (Rough) is performed by Kiyoe Yoshioka, Ikimono-gakari’s vocalist.
