Later this year, Zack Snyder's highly-anticipated epic science-fiction film Rebel Moon is set to arrive on Netflix and they recently released a lengthy teaser trailer that gave us our first preview of the fan-favorite director's passion project.

The film's journey to the screen has been a long and tedious one since Snyder originally pitched it as an idea for a Star Wars film before he decided to turn it into an original movie for Netflix instead.

The Star Wars influences on Rebel Moon became apparent just based on the teaser trailer and first-look photos that they released as you can see a lot of visual homages to the beloved franchise.

However, despite Snyder's love for Star Wars and its massive influence on his next project, he does have a nitpick about a certain aspect that has made the franchise into an iconic visual feast for decades.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Snyder discussed the visuals and look of Rebel Moon where he opened up about his complaint about the costumes in Star Wars and how it made him want to be more visually unique in his own movie as they explore more planets.

"We try. I always laugh that in Star Wars, it just so happens that the native costumes of this weird Tatooine, this weird planet in the middle of nowhere, happen to be the fashion of the entire universe," he said.

"I thought they were very particular. I guess that's fine. When you make a sci-fi movie, it's like, 'Okay, well, what is the world? What does the home planet look like?' They could all be wearing neon jumpsuits and who knows."

Snyder continued, "There's a million examples. It could be 1984. It could be something. I like the idea of everything is terrestrially inspired because I feel like it makes it really relatable."

While the fan-favorite director may have said some valid points about the Oscar-winning costume design in Star Wars, it could also be countered by the fact that recent Star Wars shows have made some effort to diversify the look of the galaxy as they explore more planets and realms.

Even if the shows and films have revisited Tatooine many times, they do try to make it not stick to a particular fashion choice and they always establish different cultures to show the endless possibilities of the galaxy far, far away.

Nevertheless, it looks like Snyder is making a lot of concerted effort to make his own epic space saga more visually unique than his influences and it is interesting to see what the results will be when we see the full picture.

Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire is set to release on Netflix this December 22.
