Zack Snyder Reveals Major Details About Robin's Death in the DCEU

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shockingly revealed that Robin has already been killed off-screen in the DCEU. It became part of Batman's arc since his introduction in the franchise as the experienced scarred his heroic journey.

Since then, there have been some speculations and theories regarding how it all went down. We've also heard confirmation from Zack Snyder himself that Dick Grayson is the Robin who got killed off and Joker is the culprit behind it.

Recently, during a Q&A session at SnyderCon (via The Direct), Snyder addressed Robin's off-screen in the DCEU once again where he revealed more details such as why Joker decided to kill the character.

"At that point, [Batman’s] real vulnerability was Robin. What’s obvious is that the Joker understood that," the director said.

"And all I’ll say is that... I think I’ve talked about this a little bit. Clearly, he blew him up. Or, it looks like he burned or scorched him."

However, Snyder fell short of discussing more details about Robin's death as he doesn't want to spoil it in case the story will get told in the future.

"I think beyond that, I really don’t want to say the actual circumstances, because I feel like it’s a spoiler for maybe a thing that may never be spoiled. We should wait to see, don’t you think? A little bit," he added.

As we've seen later on in Zack Snyder's Justice League, Batman and Joker decided to be on the same team as they battle against evil Superman during the Knightmare part near the end of the film.

Snyder offered some explanation on why the two characters were teaming up at that moment despite the differences that they obviously have.

"Our theory is that he’s the one who knows where the Kryptonite, what shards of Kryptonite exist. He has that information. And so he’s being carried," he explained.

"He has basically made a deal with Batman. Don’t kill me, and I’ll show you. I’ll get you a tool to fight Superman. And so [Batman] is kind of stuck with him, in that way. If he kills him, or gets rid of him, then he’s screwed himself."

Given that the DC franchise is being rebooted and Snyder has moved on to his own projects at Netflix, it is all but certain that we won't see any continuation of what the director has established in the Snyder Cut.

Nevertheless, it is great to see him explain some plot points about what he set up in his films, and, at the very least, fans have some clarification or even closure to the unanswered questions from the Snyder-verse.
