Say what you will about the current state of the DC (Extended) Universe but there's no doubt that the franchise is generating massive hype as of late. This is all thanks to The Flash unexpectedly picking up steam ahead of its theatrical release in June.

Understandably, fans and critics alike have been quite skeptical about seeing the project mainly due to the slew of personal controversies its lead star Ezra Miller has been facing over the last couple of years.

Despite The Flash scoring promising reviews following its debut at CinemaCon, with many lauding Miller as its true highlight, that doesn't exactly guarantee that the controversial actor will actually get cast in the rebooted DCU.

DC Studios co-head James Gunn is still seemingly on the fence about the idea and when asked by AP Entertainment at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 premiere if Miller has a place in the "new" DCU, he simply said: "We’re just gonna have to wait and see, you know? I mean, we’ll see how things go, so, you know…"

The clip quickly went viral on Twitter and it had fans speculating that Gunn might not be interested in keeping Ezra around. Some pointed out the sudden change in the director's facial expression when asked about the possibility of Miller being retained for the new DCU. Check out some of the tweets below:

As it stands, Miller is currently undergoing treatment for his mental health struggles and it'll be interesting to see if he'll actually take part in The Flash's promo tour.

Considering the fans' perception of the actor still hasn't changed despite his attempt at reforming, I think we can all agree that he'd still be a walking PR nightmare for WB Discovery.

DC's The Flash is set to hit cinemas on June 16.
