Zachary Levi Claims Shazam 2 is 'Objectively' Better Than the First Movie

Shazam! Fury of the Gods has now been officially declared by pundits as a box office flop after three weeks of underwhelming performance and the numbers are nowhere near to its breakeven point. It also doesn't help that the reviews have been mixed and it wasn't as glowing as the first film.

Suffice it to say, the results were disappointing to anyone involved in the making of the film including its star Zachary Levi, who has commented about the sequel's underwhelming box office performance ever since the numbers on the opening weekend came.

In his recent appearance at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (via CBM), Levi addressed the film's disappointing results and how it will affect his future in the DCU moving forward. So far, the actor doesn't have any word yet whether it was a nail in the coffin for him to return to the role.

"A business is a business. So, they don't tend to make more products of something that didn't make them the money that they wanted, right?" he said.

"I would love to keep playing this role. I am literally paid to be an immature version of myself. I would highly recommend. But, I don't know. And I haven't had any conversations about it. So, I'm just kind of here, living life!"

The actor also expressed his wish that the sequel was "doing much better" at the box office and claimed that it is "objectively" a better film than the first one that they released back in 2019.

"I think Shazam! Fury of the Gods is objectively actually a better movie than the first film. A lot of people don’t think so," Levi added before joking, "F— those guys."

There is no doubt that the cast and crew really worked hard on making the sequel and it is understandable why they were really disheartened to see that the box office performance did not meet the goals that they wanted. It is also a bad sign regarding the character's future in the DCU although it still remains to be seen whether they'll still incorporate him in the new franchise.

For now, let's just wait and see what the repercussions will be on Levi's future in the DCU or whether James Gunn and Peter Safran will recast and reboot the character when they introduce him in the new iteration of the franchise.
