X-Force Member Shatterstar Gets 'Hardboiled Noir' Mini-Series

He wasn't able to do much in Deadpool 2 but that didn't stop Marvel from announcing a new Shatterstar mini-series that will be coming out this October. The bisexual and polyamorous X-Force member who also happens to be an alien gladiator won't just be smashing heads though, as writer Tim Seeley and artist Carlos Villa plan on putting the character through a hardboiled noir tale.

Speaking with Marvel.com, Seeley says that the series will revolve around Shatterstar trying to move on from his violent lifestyle during his gladiator days but is forced to come back to it, though the former Nightwing writer didn't give the circumstances as to what he brings him back.

"My interest in him now is more in the ‘hardboiled noir' aspects of the character. He's this guy whose life was violence for sport—and now he's trying to move on from that. But it's such a thin thread that keeps him in this new line of lawfulness, and it's an easy one to break."

Claiming that it will be a mixture of John Wick and Will Eisner's A Contract With God, Seeley is also promising plenty of references to classic X-Men mythos. He specifically mentions classic X-Force stories from Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, so that'll be interesting.

"When the life he built crumbles, Shatterstar is forced to ask himself if he truly ever gave up the gladiator ring. The series will be part John Wick, a dash of Will Eisner's A Contract with God, and infused with lots of lots of interdimensional X-Men Super Hero mythos."

The character has changed quite a bit since the 90's, getting a new haircut and costume, whilst also being more open about his relationship with X-Factor member Rictor. Considering how Seeley mentions Shatterstar's life "falling apart" it looks like the character will be forced to fight for what he's built.
