World War Z Sequel Cancelled, But Mad Max 2 Could Move Forward

David Fincher was set to make a sequel the zombie movie World War Z, and the film had already started pre-production. The bad news is, it looks like Paramount has decided to put a halt on the film.

According to The Playlist, the issue had something to do with the budget. Though it was said that Fincher's claimed budget for the movie was under the original's number of $190 million, Collider says that the production was planning to go over it. Fincher apparently wouldn't budge from his decision, and it's said that he's now off the project.

However, with the news that WWZ2 is now shelved, Fandango's Erik Davis is teasing a sequel that people were actually asking for:

Director George Miller had planned a sequel for Mad Max: Fury Road, but due to a legal mishap with the studio, the movie had been put on hold. We don't really know when the sequel could happen; in fact, it might still get canceled, but I'm sure there are a lot more people looking forward to a return to the Wasteland as compared to a continuation of a movie that didn't even borrow anything from the original source material but the title.

If you ask me, World War Z should just be revisited as a mockumentary series with different survivors per episode recounting their experiences during the zombie apocalypse. Maybe they should sell the idea to AMC so they could do something with the zombies they have leftover from The Walking Dead.

A Mad Max sequel has not been officially announced.
