Wookiee Stormtroopers Almost Made It To Solo: A Star Wars Story

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

It might sound strange for Star Wars fans, but early concept art for Solo: A Star Wars Story reveals that the film's production team actually played around with the idea of introducing Wookie stormtroopers into Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away.

Though the script that legendary Star Wars screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and his co-writer Jon Kasdan went through several drafts, details about what didn't make the final cut have been making their way online.

Publications like Filmedia News who've gotten their hands on Solo's art book The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story have posted a few of the film's concept art online. One of these concept art images show how Solo planned to show Wookies fighting alongside the Empire in Stormtrooper-inspired armor.

Apparently, Solo planned to feature a troop of Wookies during the war on Mimban, however, the group was exchanged for a standard Star Wars character design instead. Though the idea of stormtrooper Wookies seems new, the concept would fall in line with the Empire enslaving the residents of Kashyyk.

Of course, Solo can't really bring stormtrooper Wookies to the big screen. Star Wars fans know that the Empire is a pretty racist organization, favoring humans above other species. Characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn are pretty special because the Chiss male is one of the highest-ranking aliens in the Empire.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently screening in cinemas.
