Solo’s Total Gross Expected To Go Just A Little Bit Over The Force Awakens’ Opening Weekend Haul

Solo: A Star Wars Story is really having it rough at the box office.

Not only did the Star Wars spinoff stumble during its opening weekend, failing to rake in atleast more than $100 million domestically during its first three days in cinema, it also did poorly in the international box office.

Things don't seem to be getting better for the film. According to a report by Deadline, analysts expect the film to rake around $30 to $33 million during its second weekend. Though it's normal to see a large drop from a film's opening weekend, 60 percent seems exceptionally high and analysts predict that by the end of its time in cinemas the Solo would have been "lucky" enough to reach $250 million domestically. That's just a little over Star Wars: The ForceAwakens opening weekend haul which came around $248 million in cinemas in Northern America.

Solo's performance is a pretty sad state of affairs and some of the reasons for the film's outcome have been the film's directorial shake-ups, the poor marketing campaign, and the spin-off's Summer release date. Some also lay the blame on Solo's competition, saying that the film had trouble catching audiences' attention with Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 releasing before it. Others lay the blame on Star Wars fatigue.

Whatever the answer is, projections for Solo don't really look to good, and we wonder what this might mean for the Star Wars franchise.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently screening in cinemas.
