Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka
Timothée Chalamet plays a young Willy Wonka. “I’m something of a magician, inventor, and chocolate maker,” Willy says in the trailer.
Chalamet is known for his roles as Elio Perlman in Call Me by Your Name, Theodore “Laurie” Laurence in 2019’s Little Women, and Paul Atreides in Dune. He also starred in the films Lady Bird, The French Dispatch, and Don't Look Up.
Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa
Hugh Grant joins the cast of Wonka as an Oompa-Loompa.
Grant is known for his roles in romantic comedy films, including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually, and Music and Lyrics. He won the Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Actor for his role in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Grant also recently starred in the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, where he played the villain Forge Fitzwilliam.
Calah Lane as Noodle
Calah Lane plays a young orphan named Noodle. She becomes an ally to Willy, and according to director Paul King, “She knows what this world is like in a way that Willy doesn't” (via Empire).
Lane has appeared in the film The Day Shall Come and the series Family Reunion.
Keegan-Michael Key as the Chief-of-Police
Keegan-Michael Key joins the cast of Wonka as the Chief-of-Police. Key is known for his role in the sketch comedy television series Key & Peele.
He also starred in the series Friends from College and Reboot, and voiced Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Key currently stars in the musical comedy series Schmigadoon!
Paterson Joseph as Slugworth
Paterson Joseph stars as Slugworth, Willy Wonka’s rival chocolatier. Joseph starred in Timeless, Law & Order: UK, The Beach, Safe House, and The Other Man.
Matt Lucas as Prodnose

Rowan Atkinson as Father Julius
Rowan Atkinson joins the cast of Wonka as Father Julius. Atkinson is best known for his role in Mr. Bean, where he played the titular character. He then continued to portray the character in film adaptations, namely 1997’s Bean and 2007’s Mr. Bean Holiday.
Atkinson also voiced the character in the animated television series. He also starred in Blackadder and Johnny English.
Olivia Colman as Mrs. Scrubbit
Olivia Colman joins the cast of Wonka as Mrs. Scrubbit. Colman won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Anne in the historical drama The Favourite.
She also received Oscar nominations for her performances in The Lost Daughter and The Father. Colman also starred in The Crown, Heartstopper, and Secret Invasion.
Jim Carter as Abacus Crunch
Jim Carter joins the cast of Wonka as Abacus Crunch. Carter starred in Downton Abbey and its movie spinoffs, Shakespeare in Love, and Ella Enchanted. He also voiced Cogman in Transformers: The Last Knight, The King in The Sea Beast, and The Executioner in Alice in Wonderland.
Sally Hawkins as Willy Wonka's mother
Sally Hawkins plays Willy's mother. Hawkins starred as Elisa Esposito in 2017’s The Shape of Water, for which she received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
She also starred in Paddington and its sequel, Godzilla and its sequel, Made in Dagenham, and Maudie.
