Wonder Woman 1984 Gets Comic Book Tie-In With New Story and Classic Reprints

Wonder Woman 1984 is one of the most popular comic book movies coming out this year and many are hoping that COVID-19 doesn't affect its June 5 release. As we wait with bated breath for this possible classic, DC has decided to capitalize on the movie's popularity by announcing a big comic book tie-in that will be coming out a good week before the movie. Yes, we mean big because this is going to be a 96-page giant filled with new stories and some classic reprints.

Revealed by DC's June 2020 solicitations (thanks Newsarama), Wonder Woman 1984 Giant #1 will have a tie-in story to the movie that has Diana multi-tasking, as she has to take care of her teenage tour group while also attempting to diffuse a hostage situation. We're also getting an original story where Diana and Steve Trevor have to find someone who stole her Lasso of Truth, which doesn't appear to be a movie tie-in.

Here's the full solicitation, which details the new stories, along with the classic reprints:

In this tie-in to the WW84 film…When a failed burglary attempt causes a hostage situation at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Diana Prince is forced to leave her teenage tour group behind so Wonder Woman can save the day! But will Wonder Woman be able to bring ten gunman to justice and get back to her tour group in time?

"Honey, I Shrunk My Friends"
It's the 1980s, and greed is good for those that already have it all. Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor hunt down the reckless mastermind who makes the ultimate power move…the theft of Diana's golden lasso!
Plus these reprint tales:
• "Deadly Arrival" from Wonder Woman #3 (1987)
• "Blood of the Cheetah," Wonder Woman #301 (1987)
• "Dark Challenger," from Wonder Woman #301 (1983)

That's a lot of bang for your buck and we're a bit surprised that DC only recently decided to release material like this to tie-in to their movies. Sure, we had a Birds of Prey Giant #1 when that movie came out but it didn't explicitly tie-in to the movie, though it did have Gail Simone's awesome writing.

Wonder Woman 1984 comes out on June 5, while Wonder Woman 1984 Giant #1 comes out on May 27. No, we don't know why they revealed it in the June solicitations and not the May ones.
