Wonder Woman 1984 Director Considering Animated Series Based on The Amazons

We're all waiting for Wonder Woman 1984 right now, which is a bit annoying since the movie was done filming and editing ages ago. Still, the hype for the movie is still high and we're hoping that this sequel improves on its pleasant but flawed predecessor. Patty Jenkins seemingly has a lot of plans for this side of the DCEU since she not only wants to work on an Amazons spin-off film but also an animated series.

Speaking with Empire about 1984 and all things Wonder Woman-related, she revealed that there are currently discussions for an animated show based on this side of the DCU. Since Wonder Woman won't be returning to Themyscira anytime soon it would be cool to see what the people there are like and how they've been functioning since Diana left.

There have been a few attempts to make Themyscira more interesting, mostly in comic books. The animated Wonder Woman movie that came out all those years ago also did a solid job at characterizing several Amazonians, including the one who was helping out Ares. We definitely wouldn't mind seeing a DC series about these characters, though, given the fate of shows like Krypton, we aren't sure if fans would be intrigued enough to check it out.

As we wait for more news on an animated series about DC's Amazons, Wonder Woman 1984 will be hitting theaters on October 2. Here's hoping that COVID-19 doesn't get in the way of that.
