Suicide Squad Star Will Smith Wants to Release David Ayer’s Cut of Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad Deadshot played by Will Smith expressed interest in seeing David Ayer’s cut of 2016’s Suicide Squad film.

2016’s Suicide Squad is one of DC’s most successful projects other than Justice League. After fans protest in releasing Justice League’s Snyder Cut, fans now set their attention to the Ayer’s Cut of the Suicide Squad film.

In an interview with Variety, Will Smith expressed his thoughts on the potential of the Ayer’s Cut. He would love to see it and see different versions of his Deadshot that didn’t make it to the final cut of the film. The actor explained, “There's a whole lot that stayed on the floor for Suicide Squad. I'm into it. I'd love to see it. I love that world. I love what was created in both versions. I absolutely would love to.”

Last year, 2021, Will Smith’s co-actor Jared Leto, who plays The Joker in Suicide Squad also expressed his interest in the Ayer’s Cut and asked, “Why wouldn’t they? Why wouldn’t they? I mean, that’s what streaming’s for, right?”

Ayer’s Cut is an unreleased version of the original Suicide Squad film that has more scenes relevant to the film. This rumored cut is set to discover more information about the DC universe.

However, Warner Bros. CEO Anne Sarnoff has officially given their statement about Ayer’s version, “We won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut.”

Director David Ayer on the other hand expressed his frustration with his original plan not making it to the film and stated that the film should be a ‘heartfelt drama.’

“I get it, it's a business,” he said. “It's frustrating because I made a really heartfelt drama and it got ripped to pieces and they tried to turn it into Deadpool, which it just wasn't supposed to be. And then you take the hit, you're the captain of the ship, my name was on it.”

It would be interesting to see another version of the Suicide Squad, especially now with streaming services. Ayer’s cut might give us another look for 2016’s Suicide Squad and a deeper perspective about the DC film. Now that we have no confirmation about this cut yet, we can stream DC’s recent project, Peacemaker, now streaming in HBO Max.
