In 2023, it was announced that Melissa Benoist was going to replace Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who had voiced Teela in the 2021 series Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
This was disappointing for fans of Gellar, especially those who loved Buffy and wished to see more new projects from the actor.
As of writing, Sarah Michelle Gellar hasn't officially confirmed why she will no longer be in Masters of the Universe.
The most common reason actors might have to step down from a role they previously held has to do with schedule conflicts.
With new seasons of beloved shows often having unpredictable filming timelines, there is no guarantee that every star will be available when production of a new season or sequel is greenlit.
Moreover, actors sometimes simply no longer wish to participate in a specific project because they prefer to work on a different movie or show, or simply take a break.
Before her 2023 return to TV as Kristin in Wolf Pack, Gellar revealed that the death of her friend and former co-star Robin Williams made her realize that she needed to take a break from acting.
It is possible that the filming and recording for MotU Revolution didn't fit in with Gellar's work for Wolf Pack, or simply, that the star is focusing on a better work-life balance after an intense early career.
Who Is Teela's New Voice Actor?
From now on, Teela will be voiced by Melissa Benoist. The 35-year-old actress is best known for her titular role in Supergirl and the role of Marley Rose in Glee.
This is the Supergirl alumna's third collaboration with Masters of the Universe producer Kevin Smith as he was also part of The Flash and The Supergirl series.
While some fans are likely a bit disappointed that Sarah Michelle Gellar will not be part of Masters of the Universe: Revolution, Melissa Benoist is experienced in superheroine roles, and she's expected to do a great job voicing Teela.
Benoist's previous voice roles include Laura from Robot Chicken.
