Why Does the Dragon Talk in Netflix's Damsel? Abilities Explored
A fire-breathing dragon is not exactly the most surprising thing about Netflix's Damsel. If anything, it's the go-to villain to search for in fantasy flicks.
However, considering that the kingdom has had a long-standing 'agreement' with the creature, this complicates things further, especially how they communicated in the first place.
According to the Queen, the King decided to sacrifice three princesses as a part of his tradition to keep the fire-breather at bay. But how did that happen in the first place?
As it turns out, the dragon can talk. This was how Elodie figured out she had been lied to about the kingdom's long-standing tradition. This was also how Elodie was told of how the dragon was betrayed.
The fire-breathing dragon is not any different from the creatures shown in many movies and series.
It can fly, it has scales that could kill humans, its tail can act like a snake as it can choke its victims to death — and it can talk.
As of writing, it remains to be seen why the dragon can talk and communicate with humans.
That aside, the dragon in Damsel is voiced by Oscar-nominated actress Shoreh Aghdashloo.
She is best known for lending her voice to other prominent animation features like Arcane as the former Sheriff Grayson of Piltover Enforcers, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight as Forouzan, and in the video game Assassin's Creed Mirage as Roshan.

Is the Dragon Good or Bad in the Damsel Movie?
The dragon's role in Damsel is trickier to pin down unless viewers reach the confrontation between Elodie and the creature. Essentially, the dragon was betrayed by the kingdom.
Despite living in its sanctuary underground, its lair was disturbed by the humans' interference with raising its children.
Initially, the King, convinced that the dragon would kill his people, slayed its three children after being hatched from their eggs.
Because of this, the dragon warned him by saying, "You will know my pain", leading it to slay three daughters for every generation.
The dragon also threatened Elodie: "My daughters were the last of my line. So, I will take their daughters until my final breath."
