More often than not, Marvel movies usually conclude with the downfall of our heroes' enemies and villains of the story. However, The Marvels paints a different picture as we also lost some of the good guys. Here is everyone who dies and who survives in the Captain Marvel sequel:

The main storyline of The Marvels revolves around Captain Marvel and Captain Monica Rambeau discovering a mysterious portal that connects their powers with the New Jersey fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel.

While it was initially believed it had something to do with their powers being light-based around cosmic energy, it was essentially the portal that brought these three together, entangling their powers.

It was thanks to that that these three unlikely Marvels now had to work together to save the destabilizing universe.

Now, considering that this is a Captain Marvel sequel, it technically still has Carol Danvers in the center spotlight. She still has no recollection of her full memories after the 'accident' happened (when she got her powers).

However, an old enemy comes tailing on her, Dar-Benn, aka the new leader of the Kree race.

If you can recall, the first Captain Marvel movie and Nick Fury's Secret Invasion series tackled the Kree-Skrull war. It was only then that we found out that the Kree had always been the culprits behind destroying the Skrulls' civilization.

Since Carol initially resided with the Kree, she was led to believe they were the good guys, instead of the other way around.

In The Marvels, though, we got to see Carol in a different light when Dar-Benn told her story. That the Kree planet was destroyed because of Captain Marvel's interference.

And it was due to this that Dar-Benn wanted to 'destroy' her in return by stealing the natural resources of the planets Carol would reside in.

There were half of the Skrull colony had to be left on their planet while Dar-Benn was destroying it. After stealing their clean air, the remaining Skrulls were brought to Asgard to live in, thanks to Valkyrie's help.

Then on the second planet, Aladna, aka where Park Seo-Joon's Prince Yan ruled, some of his soldiers were harmed and defeated in the duration of their fight to keep Dar-Benn from stealing their water.

The Marvels movie saw to it that Dar-Benn was defeated. Although it was also because she couldn't handle controlling two bangles at once, her body disintegrated and left a huge open portal in an alternate universe.

How Will [Spoilers] Return in the MCU?

Here's the real doozy about The Marvels, though. While Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Captain Monica Rambeau (her superhero name has yet to be established) defeated the main villain, they still had to fix the gap hole in the universe.

To do that, Monica told Carol and Kamala they had to blast their powers (including Kamala's two bangles) right at her so that she could fix the gaping hole.

Unfortunately, nobody quite understood how Monica planned this to go.

She essentially sacrifices herself by staying on the other side of the alternate universe, leaving Carol to move back to Earth and find a way to bring her back, while Kamala decides to start gathering the Young Avengers.

The post-credit scenes did reveal that Monica was stuck in an alternate reality, where her mother, Maria Rambeau, is not her mother at all.

We also caught a glimpse of a prominent X-Men figure, which likely confirms that the Foxverse's X-Men (and mutants) are now canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How Monica could return to the main MCU timeline remains to be unknown for now, which could only tease a potential The Marvels 2 or Captain Marvel 3 in the future.
