The 2016 series tells the story of Kim Shin (Gong Yoo), a god-turned-goblin tasked to protect people by granting their most sincere wishes. However, the goblin suffers the toll of living with immortality and having to watch the people around him die.
To set his soul free, he must find his human bride prophesied to break the curse, unbeknownst to him that it would be a 19-year-old high school girl, Ji Eun-tak (Kim Go-Eun), who could see the walking dead on earth.
