Fans of performance and storytelling will enjoy Akane-banashi, a drama manga written by Yuki Suenaga and illustrated by Takamasa Moue!

The manga follows Akane, whose father practices rakugo, a Japanese form of oral entertainment whereby a single performer tells a story with multiple characters.

The performer sits in one place but adapts their voice, pitch, tone, and so on to accommodate different emotions and personalities.

But while popular back in the day, Akane's father and his friends failed to obtain the highest possible rank in the world of rakugo, and they were expelled from their academy.

After that, Akane's father decided to quit rakugo, much to his daughter's dismay.

A few years later, Akane, who has secretly been receiving lessons from her father's former master, is ready to avenge her father and prove that rakugo is a legitimate art.

So far, the manga only has four volumes, but it's been receiving very good reviews. Rakugo might seem like an obscure topic, but we're always drawn to stories about artists trying to achieve their dreams.

After all, learning about another culture's traditional form of entertainment can be quite interesting.

Moreover, anime like Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju and Joshiraku have already proven that rakugo-based stories can and do work, so we'd love to see Akane-banashi animated.

The creators of One Piece and Neon Genesis Evangelion have also praised the manga, proving how great it is.

Akane-banashi only came out in February 2022 and counts four volumes as of December 2022, so there are no immediate plans for an anime adaptation. However, we can totally see it happening after a while.

Currently, Akane-banashi is one of the favorite newcomers and one major motivator for many manga readers to retain their Shonen Jump account.

Akane-banashi has maintained consistently good quality for over 30 chapters.

Plus, readers admire the way it manages to keep a light-hearted atmosphere while dealing with a sad topic.

Moreover, it is simply refreshing to find a good series that isn't a shonen anime or manga in the classic sense of the term and doesn't have over 200 chapters to catch up with.

All the above make an Akane-banashi anime quite likely, though it might be a year or two before we have enough material and popularity for this to happen.

If there's any official announcement about an Akane-banashi anime adaptation, we'll update this space with all the relevant information!
