Disenchanted is the long-awaited sequel to the 2007 hit fantasy movie, Enchanted.

It stars the same outstanding cast members we saw in the first film, led by Amy Adam as Giselle and Patrick Dempsey as Robert Philip. We will also see more of Idina Menzel as Nancy and James Marsden as Prince Edward.

Morgan, Robert and Giselle’s eldest daughter, will now be played by Gabriella Baldacchino

There are also new villains in the film, led by Maya Rudolph as Malvina Monroe. Malvina is joined by two trusty (but kinda ditzy) sidekicks with Yvette Nicole Brown (from The Community) as Rosaleen and Jayma Mays (from Glee) as Ruby.

Disenchanted spoilers ahead

In the Disenchanted, Giselle, Robert, Morgan, and their new baby Sophie move from their apartment in the heart of the city to their very own suburban castle in a little town called Monroeville.

The family has a hard time adjusting to life in Monroeville, being the newcomers who want to find where they fit in. Nancy and Edward visit the family to give their gift to Sophie, their godchild. Their gift was an Andalasian Wishing Wand, a real-life magical wishing wand that can grant whatever the user desires.

There’s a lot of technicalities and rules behind using the wand (which thankfully comes with a magical talking scroll that will answer any question asked about the wand). Still, the most important rule is that it can only be used by a true daughter (or son) of Andalasia.

Giselle making a wish

The Andalasian Wishing Wand is a magical item from the world of Andalasia. It is color gold with a golden handle, and it comes in a special wooden box that also holds the accompanying scroll. In regular Monroeville, you need to read the scroll to find the answer to your question about the wand.

The wand draws magic from Andalasia to grant wishes, but what happens when it grants a very big and powerful wish?

Evil Stepmother Giselle

When things don’t go so well for Giselle and her family, she uses the wand to wish for a fairy-tale life.

The following day, Giselle finds herself in the fairy tale she wished for - Robert is a dashing prince out on adventures, and Morgan is a dedicated pleasant maiden who calls her stepmother.

Things are not as great as they seem, though, because, in fairy tales, stepmothers are always evil. Giselle slowly becomes an unpleasant person, completely different from who she really is.

Giselle vies to be the Evil of Monroelasia (the fairy tale equivalent of Monroeville) against Queen Melvina, destroys Morgan’s dress for the ball, keeps Morgan from even attending the ball, and even wears a low-cut dress with a high updo.

When Morgan tries to escape from her tower, Giselle captures her and pushes her into the wishing well in their backyard, which also happens to be a portal between Andalasia and Monroelasia.

With a wish as big as Giselles, all of the magic from Andalasia is being sucked into Monroelasia. This means everything in that enchanted world will cease to exist, including Giselle.

Morgan

Morgan woke up in a slowly deteriorating Andalasia, but with the help of her godparents, Nancy and Edward, she manages to harness the most powerful magic of all - the magic of memories.

Morgan returns to Monroeville and reminds Giselle who she really is, and she does remember but she’s now too weak to make the magic work. Giselle encourages Morgan to take the wand and to make a wish, saying that Morgan is a true daughter of Andalasia because she is Giselle’s daughter, no matter what.

In the end, everything returns to how it was before Giselle’s wish, only this time, life is much better for everyone.
