Who Is Yomi in Yu Yu Hakusho?
Yomi is an upper-S-class demon who has been through a lot before he became one of the three kings of the demon world.
In the past, Yomi was part of Yoko’s gang, plundering rich demon lords one after the other to make ends meet and eventually create a nation and territory of their own.
He was considered Yoko's second-hand man, but not until he was betrayed, due to his tendency to act brash and reckless, contrary to Yoko.
His dangerous and impulsive actions also brought fear and harm to his fellow gang members, which led to his rift with Yoko.
When Yoko asked Yomi to scout an impenetrable fortress for their next theft, Yoko sought the help of a demon to attack Yomi. The assailant failed to kill Yomi, but he was successful in blinding him.
Even in the face of death, Yomi never begged for mercy and instead accepted his own fate.
Eventually, Yomi got used to his new life, but deep inside, he wanted to exact vengeance on his assailant and especially on the person who cost him his light.
As Yomi worked his way up in the demon world, he got stronger, and his hard work paid off.
Not only did he become the ruler of Gandara, he also became one of the three kings of the demon world, next to Raizen and Mukuro.

What Happened to Yomi in Yu Yu Hakusho?
Seeking answers to his situation, Yomi tracked down his assailant and imprisoned him in the hopes that he would uncover the truth behind Yoko’s intentions on that fateful day.
As this happens, Kurama joins Yomi’s side after Yusuke is finally able to visit Raizen, while Hiei starts working with Mukuro.
Yomi finally got the truth out of his situation after Kurama reunited with the demon assailant, which took Yomi’s sight.
When Yusuke started the Demon World Tournament, Yomi joined despite initial hesitations. He was forced to join after seven of his best subordinates betrayed him and sided with Yusuke.
During the tournament, Yomi was pitted against his son, Shura (Yomi’s clone), whom he defeated effortlessly. He then faced Yusuke in the second round, where he emerged victorious thanks to Shura’s encouragement.
Unfortunately, Yomi lost in the third round against Kokou, Raizen’s old friend, given how he lost so much of his energy to Yusuke.
Later, Yomi plans to go on a journey with Shura, but before he leaves, he asks Kurama to tell Yusuke that he will be happy to face him in a match again.
Will Yomi Appear in the Yu Yu Hakusho Live-Action?
While it hasn’t been confirmed, Yomi will most likely not have an appearance in the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action.
However, he may appear in the later seasons of the live-action, as the Three Kings Saga will not be covered in the first season.
