The Saltburn movie is filled with several disturbing and unforgettable scenes. Apart from the bathtub and the graveyard humping scenes featuring Ollie (played by Barry Keoghan), there's the mystery surrounding its conclusion.

Particularly, one that involves Duncan the butler's (played by Paul Rhys) sudden erasure from the story.

The most that we get to know about Duncan is when Oliver asks Elspeth (Rosamund Pike) how the Saltburn mansion has been and if Duncan is still the man at the door.

Elspeth answers, "Oh God, he's still there. Oh, everything's the same, exactly the same as when you left it."

When Ollie and Elspeth returned to Saltburn, the butler wasn't there to accompany the two, so what happened to the butler?

Did Ollie end up killing the butler himself, too, in the end? Well, not exactly. Seeing as the creators of the film have yet to confirm where Duncan was left off in the story, here's what we think happened to him.

A Theory on Duncan the Butler's Saltburn Ending

There was a glimpse from the door from when Oliver peeked over to watch Elspeth seemingly changing her will for the mansion to be handed over to Ollie, with Duncan looking distraught at how everything fell apart for the family he's served all these years.

It would seem that Duncan was forced to move out of Saltburn, which wouldn't be farfetched considering that Ollie knew the butler didn't like him right off the bat.

Duncan appeared to be living in comfort during his stay at Saltburn, so while it would have made sense for him to still stay at the mansion, he didn't. Likely, he had no choice but to leave the decision in Elspeth's hands.
