Sato is a Class 1-D student who is quite popular. She is also typically found alongside her close friend, Kei Karuizawa.
Even though she’s not a principal character, Sato is notable for having feelings for Ayanokoji, though it started with just casual flirting from Sato.
As Sato got to know Ayanokoji better, she started to get deeper romantic feelings for him.
She finally made her move in the Classroom of the Elite Season 2 finale. During the episode, Sato met Ayanokoji and they went on a double date with Kei and Hirata.
There, Sato confesses her feelings for Ayanokoji, though as expected, Ayanokoji turns her down. Dejected, Sato leaves, though it’s revealed that Kei witnessed the scene.
Since then, anime-only fans have been wondering what happened to Sato Maya. They’ll have to wait a while longer though, as the next major development with her happens much later.

What Happened to Sato Maya in Classroom of the Elite After Season 2?
Sato Maya finally gets the spotlight again in the first volume of the 2nd Year light novels. There, it was revealed that Kei and Sato hadn’t been talking for weeks.
The two have a confrontation, with Sato asking Kei if she has been going out with Ayanokoji. This is a big deal for the two given that Kei is the only one Sato confided in regarding her feelings for Ayanokoji.
Despite their issue, the two manage to patch things up and remain friends after the confrontation.
As the anime’s ongoing season is covering the final volumes of the 1st year arc, it will be a while before the anime gets to this part.
