Who Is Nyako?
Nyako, also known as Meowy in the English translation, used to be Power's pet. Nyako's gender is not revealed.
Initially, Power was fattening the cat to kill and eat them. However, she unexpectedly grew attached and kept Nyako as a pet.
Denji and Power's first adventure involves saving Nyako from the Bat Devil, after which the cat moves in with Denji and Aki, alongside Power.
Does Nyako Die After Power's Death?
Following Power's death, Denji keeps Nyako as his own and cares for them alongside the many dogs he and Nayuta own.
When Asa comes over to Denji's apartment, Nyako is seen sleeping. For many fans, seeing the cat alive and well was a relief — but also a painful reminder of Power's absence.
Denji seems to have a special connection with cats, as he saves one from a Devil early in Chainsaw Man Part 2.
Many fans believe that this care for cats is something he acquired after getting to know Power.
While he was always a pet lover, rescuing cats could be his way of honoring his lost friend, which makes Nyako's possible fate even more devastating.
What Happened to Nyako? Chainsaw Man Theories Explained
After the latest developments in the manga, it's possible that Nyako is dead, but we have to wait for this to be confirmed.
In Chapters 149 and 150 of the Chainsaw Man manga, Denji and Nayuta navigate the Devil-ridden city trying to return home to their pets.
What they find there shocks them, as their apartment is on fire.
Barem, who is obsessed with getting Denji to transform into Chainsaw Man, reveals that he set the house on fire to break Denji's spirit and make him angry enough to turn.
Initially, Barem had thought of killing Asa Mitaka before deciding that killing Denji's cat and dogs would devastate him more.
So far, Nyako's death hasn't been irrevocably confirmed, but we're afraid it is likely. That being said, no dead body has been shown, so it's possible that the cat escaped.
Fans hope that this is the case, as the prospect of Nyako's loss has devastated many readers, perhaps more than major character deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen.
If Nyako died, a possible big twist would be the cat's descent to Hell to find Power, who is there in some form.
Before dying, Power told Denji that Devils who die on Earth are reborn in Hell, and vice versa.
While this is far-fetched, we'd love to see Nyako herald Power's return if he really died.
