Watch: Black Lotus Opened at Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix Chiba

At Magic: The Gathering's Grand Prix Chiba in Japan this weekend, a player of the Unlimited Rochester draft just received Magic's most expensive card: Black Lotus!

Channelfireball Events, the official organizer of the Magic's Grand Prix events, has shared a video clip of the lucky Unlimited Rochester draft opening from the big event, and the whole crowd cheered. Watch the clip below:

The Rochester draft was part of Magic's 25th Anniversary celebration, and qualifying for that event isn't easy. Players would need to win a Sealed qualifying tournament to get an invite to join one of the scheduled Rochester drafts in 2018. You can check the full schedule here.

First printed in 1993, Black Lotus is the most valuable non-promotional Magic card and can fetch up to $27,000 each. However, the version from the Unlimited expansion is valued less than the ones found in Alpha or Beta versions. On eBay, you can find a copy available for $8,200. It's the most prominent of the Power 9, nine of the rarest Magic: The Gathering cards widely regarded as overpowered.
