The 2022 Urusei Yatsura anime took a pause after its 23rd episode back in March. Now, it’s confirmed that the Urusei Yatsura reboot anime will return with Part 2 in January 2024.

Its return was announced alongside a new key visual that was shared on the anime’s official website and X (formerly Twitter) account.

This visual features the main character Lum front and center, with the rest of the cast in the background.

This reveal comes just in time as the iconic series celebrates its 45th anniversary.

Along with the anime’s return, the special milestone is being celebrated in its original magazine.

Urusei Yatsura is arguably one of the most iconic classic anime, and it is the first major work of legendary manga artist Rumiko Takahashi whom many know for works like Ranma ½ and Inuyasha.

It might be hard to believe, but it has been nearly 45 years since Takahashi’s original manga began serialization. Specifically, the series’ anniversary is on September 24.

Even before the actual anniversary date though, Weekly Shōnen Sunday is celebrating the iconic work in its latest issue.

As part of the commemoration, Weekly Shōnen Sunday’s 39th issue features congratulatory illustrations from various renowned artists. Even One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda drew artwork for it.

This is a bit unexpected given that Oda is affiliated with Shueisha instead of Shogakukan (Shōnen Sunday’s publisher).

Aside from Oda, other well-known manga artists including Gosho Aoyama (Detective Conan), Kotoyama (Call of the Night), and Paru Itagaki (Beastars) shared illustrations for the anniversary.

As it has been decades since the original anime, Urusei Yatsura was brought back with a brand-new anime by David Production, the studio behind Cells at Work! and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

The reboot anime’s first two cours aired from Fall 22 to Winter 23. After these first 23 episodes, the show went on a break to give the staff more time to work.

Finally, it was announced that the anime will return in January 2024 – great news for fans of the series.

Previously, it was announced that Urusei Yatsura Part 2 would be released next year, though there was no specific release date or window announced back then.

While no other details have been shared yet, the next two cours of the anime will likely air consecutively. It is also expected to stream once again on HIDIVE, much like Part 1.
