Uma Musume might not be a big anime internationally, but it’s quite popular in Japan, enough that it’s getting a third season. Following its reveal, Uma Musume Pretty Derby Season 3 finally confirmed its release date in a new trailer.
The show’s latest trailer was shared on the anime’s official channels, and it features an extensive look at what fans can look forward to. As expected, the focus of this trailer is on the new character, Kitasan Black.
Uma Musume Continues to Be Incredibly Popular in Japan
If you ask most anime fans in the US about Uma Musume, chances are that only a few will answer that they’ve seen it. After all, it’s usually shonen anime like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen that are more popular overseas.
But among otakus in Japan, Uma Musume Pretty Derby is a huge deal, both the anime and the mobile game.
To give you a better idea, the Uma Musume mobile game has made over USD 2 billion as of April 2023, according to Sensor Tower.
So, what’s it about? Well, this series is unusual, to say the least, as it is about horse girls. In the series’ world, great racehorses are reborn as horse girls who then train to become both racers and idols.
It’s definitely a weird premise, but it has become a huge hit in its home country.
While the game continues to be popular, its anime adaptation also continues to draw a lot of viewers.
What’s interesting about the anime is that, while it’s technically an adaptation of the mobile game, the first season aired before the game’s official release.

Uma Musume Pretty Derby Season 3 Gets Official Release Date
The anime has gotten two seasons, and thanks to its success, it was renewed for another season. For the third season, Studio Kai is returning to handle animation duties.
Along with the studio, several voice cast members are also returning for the latest season, including Hina Tachibana (Shiori in My Tiny Senpai) as Satono Diamond and Machico (Tsubasa Ibuki in The iDOLM@STER) as Tokai Teiou.
Instead of returning cast members, the new trailer puts the spotlight on Kitasan Black, the new protagonist who is voiced by Hinaki Yano (Momoe Sawaki in Wonder Egg Priority). You can check out the new trailer here:
Uma Musume Pretty Derby Season 3 will be released in Japan on October 4, 2023. However, as its airtime is at midnight JST, the show’s release is technically on October 5.
Right now, there’s no word yet on which platform it will be streamed on outside Japan.
