It is no mystery that Truman Capote has been dealing with substance abuse, and it seemingly got worse when he lost the only friends he had — the swans.

The worst he had been through came into view in the latest episode of Feud: Capote vs the Swans. He had published La Cote Basque, 1965 in Esquire Magazine's November 1975, detailing the intricate stories of the swans' married and socialite lives on paper.

After losing them, he was dazed in depression after realizing he had been abandoned a second time. In episode 7, he happened to have been suffering worse episodes from paranoid hallucinations.

According to the Chicago Tribune, this was due to the obscene amount of drugs and alcohol Truman would intake. In 1980, he had a hallucination-based seizure.

It is worth mentioning though that this bit about his life was foreshadowed as early as episode 2, when Capote's mother (Lillie Mae Faulk, played by Jessica Lange) haunted him in his hallucination.

The same mother who had abandoned him to his relatives in Alabama to seek her own life in New York City.

That said, did he eventually find the treatment he needed for his hallucinations? Well, he did jump from one rehab clinic to another, in his attempt to find a cure. However, this was not enough to nurse himself back to health.

In episode 7, while Truman was giving an interview on Stanley Siegel's talk show, he was completely drunk. He eventually blacked out and woke up in a hospital, inside the detox facility.

However, it was clear he had no other resolve on the matter, as portrayed in the Feud series.

He nearly drowned in Joanne's (Molly Ringwald) pool while he was having hallucinations. He had a fever and his heart had swollen up, and still, his last words were, "Beautiful Babe."

Truman Capote died at the age of 59 on August 25, 1984, in Los Angeles, California.

As the episode depicted, Truman Capote found solace only in his hallucination that he and Babe Paley had miraculously made friends again in the afterlife together.
