For several years, Disney has been trying to mount a third Tron film following the solid success of Tron: Legacy back in 2010. Fortunately, it looks like it is finally happening with an update earlier this year that they have found a director to helm the long-gestated project.

We also know that Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto is leading the next installment this time around with no confirmation yet whether Jeff Bridges will reprise his iconic role again.

Now, we have a new update about the film and it sounds like they have recruited another cast member to join Leto in the next installment.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that American Horror Story and Dahmer star Evan Peters has joined the cast of Tron 3. He is the first actor to be recruited in the film aside from Leto.

However, the details regarding his role are being kept under wraps although the report pointed out that "the script calls for a soldier in the computer world and an awkward gamer in the human world."

Joachim Rønning is directing the film. It is scheduled to begin production in Vancouver this August although the ongoing writers' strike could potentially prevent that.

The third film, which is written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, will focus on "the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact."

Leto will be playing the role of Ares, the manifestation of the program. The film will also differ from the previous installments since they were largely set inside the world of computers and programs.

Peters' casting comes as he is getting a strong Emmy buzz for his performance in the hit Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story which will mark his second trophy if he wins following his spectacular turn in Mare of Easttown.

It is certainly exciting to learn gets involved in the film since he is a talented actor and it is curious to see what kind of role will he play in the Tron franchise which seems to be pivotal to the story and how he'll also spat with Leto, who is also an acclaimed actor like him.
