Bambi remains to be one of the classic Disney animated films that have not properly received the live-action treatment although that won't last any longer since it is already in development although it's nowhere near close to production yet.

We haven't heard any major updates about the project in the past few months and it also remains unknown whether this remake will feature a realistic portrayal of the animal characters similar to The Jungle Book and The Lion King.

Now, it looks like the film has found its director and it's someone who won an Oscar earlier this year.

Deadline has confirmed that recent Oscar winner Sarah Polley is currently in talks to direct the live-action remake of Bambi. It is unknown yet whether she will also contribute to the script which is currently written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

The project is also still in early development and it is unknown whether it will be put into motion once the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike ends. It is also expected to feature musical elements with music by Kacey Musgraves.

The classic 1942 original has been considered one of the most beloved Disney animated classics that endured after all these years and it is also credited for traumatizing young children with the horrific death of Bambi's mother.

Polley recently directed the Oscar-winning film Women Talking where she won for Best Adapted Screenplay. Before she became a full-time director, she was an actress who starred in films such as Dawn of the Dead and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

She is certainly an interesting and exciting choice to helm the project since she is a talented filmmaker and has a great eye for effective emotional storytelling which is required for someone who will spearhead the classic story.

It will also be her first big-budget film as a director if the project does end up moving to the production stage and it is curious to see how she will fare in this type of film after being involved in independent movies for years.
