Who is Haru Tennoji?
Before anything, let's talk about who Haru Tennoji is.
Haru Tennoji (played by Ren Meguro) describes himself as the "most selfish man" in the world. He is an ambitious man and uses his charm and wit to achieve his goals.
Ever since he was a young boy, he has been great at negotiating. He is also intelligent and physically strong.
Because of his steadfast personality, he doesn't easily give up when people threaten him. Instead, he looks for cards up his sleeve to use to his advantage.
After reconnecting with Gaku, he decides to quit on the first day of orientation at Dragon Bank. The reason why he decided to quit this job is because Gaku was not hired as an engineer.
He strongly believes in Gaku's abilities and even sells his watch just so Gaku can win a hacking competition.
Together with Gaku, they started the so-called 'Trillion Game', where he serves as the company's liaison, sales representative, and business decision maker.
Why is Haru Not in the Present Setting of Trillion Game?
The Japanese drama is told as a flashback of Gaku. He tells the story of his friendship with Haru and how they were able to establish Trillion Game, the company, based on Haru's wits and strategy.
But throughout the show, there is one clear question on everyone's minds: what happened to Haru in Trillion Game?
We learned that in the series, Haru ensured he could help his friend reach the top. And one way to do it is to commit insider trading, which is considered a crime by Japanese law.
In the last episode of Trillion Game, we learned that Haru did not accept the position to be the new president of Dragon Bank because investors would drop out if a criminal was linked to the company.
Instead, he passed on the title to his dear friend, Gaku. After a few acquisitions, it was discovered that the role landed on Kirika Kokuryu (played by Mio Imada).
During this re-telling of events, Haru did not appear in the flashback. Instead, he appeared two years later, picking up Gaku in a Lamborghini.

It isn't clear what happened to Haru during these two years. But it's possible that he either went to jail or went into hiding.
According to one article: "Article 197-2(xiii) of the FIEA provides for the imposition of criminal penalties against violations of the insider trading laws including a maximum penalty of penal servitude of up to five years and a criminal fine of up to JPY 5 million."
Knowing Haru's strength is negotiating with someone, it's possible that he got released early — if he, indeed, went to prison.
Ultimately, the good news is that Haru appeared at the end of the show to pick up his friend and plot for bigger and brighter things. The ending also promises that the show will return for another game...
